EAST MIDLANDS GATEWAY
COMPLETED: ONGOING

SERVICES

ENVIRONMENTAL NOISE

The East Midlands Gateway Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SFRI) is located next to J24 of the M1 East Midlands Airport.

The development is classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) and therefore was formally examined by the Planning Inspectorate. The Secretary of State Granted the Development Consent Order (DCO) for the scheme on 12th January 2016.

Vanguardia first became involved in the scheme in 2015 where we provided support to the developer in responding to the Examining Authorities Questions on the noise and vibration chapter of the Environmental Statement. Since then, Vanguardia have been working alongside the developer and their contractors to discharge the requirements of the DCO and commence demolition and construction works. This has included predictions of construction noise likely to arise from different work activities, liaising with the Local Authority to agree the noise monitoring and complaints protocol for construction activities. In addition, we have also been reviewing and optimising the proposed mitigation for the rail spur and the bypass.
