Aviva Stadium, Dublin

Lansdowne Road has been the site of the Irish Rugby Football Union since 1872. The new stadium on the site has been designed from the ground up to provide a fully enclosed bowl and to respond to the challenges of its location in the heart of Dublin.

We have worked with the client’s team, project managers and architectural design team to create a solution appropriate to the unique challenges of the site and the aspirations of the client. This ability to combine our operational experience and design expertise in collaboration with multi-disciplinary design teams gives us, we believe, a powerful skill set to bring to stadium design.

The louvred stadium facade provides a distinctive external form and also responds the nearby housing in order to minimise shading and sunlight. The stadium is immediately adjacent to the Lansdowne Road Railway Station and the integrated station and public podium also houses hospitality facilities for the stadium.

Vanguardia provided planning advice on noise issues relating to sporting and concert events, together with architectural acoustic design services for internal and external acoustics including the stadium bowl.

The unique challenges of this urban location have been met with bespoke vibration and noise engineering solutions to allow the stadium to sit comfortably within its surroundings.

Vanguardia’s role on the Aviva Stadium utilised our experience in the operational requirements of national stadia and combined with the design expertise required for a high performance multi-purpose building.
