Amex Stadium, Brighton

The Amex Stadium, opened in 2011 on a new site in Falmer near Brighton. It replaced their previous stadia, the Goldstone Ground and Withdean Stadium. The stadium development was held up at the planning stage by objections from the neighbouring council and the adjacent University of Sussex. Vanguardia provided the design services to the client and we were then novated to the main contractor, Buckingham Group in 2008.

Vanguardia provided significant input into the environmental noise impact of the stadium and had detailed negotiations with the neighbouring university in respect of lease conditions.

CLIENT: BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION FC

COMPLETION DATE: 2011

CAPACITY: 28,000

Vanguardia provided significant input into the environmental noise impact of the stadium and had detailed negotiations with the neighbouring university in respect of lease conditions.

Our consultants were involved with the complete design of the bowl acoustics and the stadium sound system.
The project started at the concept design stage and progressed through the full RIBA design stages to the provision of detailed specifications. We were then novated to the contractor to implement the sound and acoustic design.

Since the stadium opened, we have been commissioned to provide noise management and control for the concert events staged at the stadium and have since provided input into the new training ground and hotel developments.

The impact of our new strategy, and our subsequent monitoring and refinements over the years has enabled us to reduce noise complaints from 100 in 2011, to just eight in 2018, despite noise being maintained at the 2011 of 75dB(A).
