Vanguardia were appointed by Newlands Group to provide Noise, Air Quality and Lighting assessments and advice in support of a hybrid planning application for Hermes International superhub in Hoyland, Barnsley. We contributed towards the Hybrid planning application of a new regional Superhub distribution warehouse for Hermes International – a business unit of Hermes Germany GmbH (31,571 sq.m) which is reportedly the largest of its kind in Europe, and outline planning permission for 71,515 sq.m of employment use land.

Vanguardia were involved at an early stage and prior to the effects of Covid-19 on transport managed to complete the baseline noise and lighting surveys.

While meetings moved online throughout the pandemic, Vanguardia developed the assessments which considered the potential impact from the change to road traffic, the temporary impact of construction noise from the scheme and the future noise impact of ongoing operational activities from both the Superhub and the wider outline development area.

Planning permission was granted in November 2020 and Hermes plan to be operational in Q3 2022 which is anticipated to deliver approximately 1300 jobs.
